More Fun With Craigslist

Ah, gentle readers, your MatchGirl feels as though she is oft redundant when she posts these. But, seriously. Please, if you are looking for an intern, put it in the headline and save people some time. People need jobs. Desperately! Also, no one likes to be yelled at!

This week's fun with Craiglist was mostly picked because the person is either one of those of the older generation who haven't figured out that when you type in all CAPS it means that you are shouting at the other person (who wants to work for a screamer!??! Having had that experience at my last position, your MatchGirl can certainly say, not she!)

Wow. This employer is looking for a genius. With lots of experience. To be in charge of the everyday routine of their studio. And for all that, they are willing to pay them a whopping $10 - $12 an hour. How wonderful.

And, apparently, will yell at them a lot.

  1. My response to both the all caps and the requirements vs pay: UGH.

  3. It is me or are employers completely taking advantage of those who are desperately seeking work? I understand there is a recession going on and it's an employers market, but who really can live on a $10-12/hour wage for a part time job? It's ridiculous.

  4. I wonder, what exactly they mean by "good actitude"? Or was it a typo that got crushed under Mount Capslock?

  5. What's worse is that I have been applying to those such jobs, basically $10/hour to run your personal business with no benefits and I still can't even get a response for an interview. It's like, fine, I have lowered my standards dramatically and now I will whore myself out to you, but then you don't even hear back from them and it's bittersweet. I'm glad I am not going to be totally taken advantage of by you, but at the same time, you found someone more qualified than me? Hello, I managed an office of 400 people a year ago and you don't think I can handle your measley trustfund art career??!! ...venting...

  6. I am feeling similar frustration. Wondering if I need to lower my standards significantly in these hard times....occasionally applying to a few that I consider "stooping." And I still don't hear anything back?

Or when I do hear from them, the person is just a complete moron and has no idea what they're talking about. Something like "I am starting a business and I think it will be cool and stuff, and I want someone who can help me design because I just like the idea of having a business."

  7. the irony of asking for someone with "EXCELLENT WRITTING SKILLS" bowls me over.
